New visa to increase foreign workers: Qualified workers can stay for up to 10 years
The Japanese government included a plan to create a new visa (resident status) category to accept foreign workers in an outline of “Basic Policies” for administering economic and fiscal measures (so-called “Honebuto-no-hoshin”). The newly-created visa is expected to accept 500,000 workers by year 2025 to make up the labor shortage issue, while there are still many issues left unsolved such as wrongful benefit receipt of public livelihood assistance, malicious brokers, etc.
